Watch M.I.A.’s new video for an unreleased track from 2004

The song, Reload, was written with Elastica’s Justine Frischmann

Yesterday M.I.A. shared a new (well, old) video for an unreleased song, “Reload”, from 2004. The song preceded the release of M.I.A.’s debut album, Arular, in 2005, and was co-written by Elastica’s Justine Frischmann, who she befriended and shared an apartment with in the early 2000s.

The video, also produced in 2004, features lo-fi clips filmed in Frischmann’s basement, reflecting M.I.A.’s early interest in realistic and relatable filmmaking.

The revival of “Reload” is likely due to the song being featured in the recent documentary about the rapper, MATANGI/MAYA/M.I.A, directed by Stephen Loveridge. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival this year and was released digitally earlier this week (December 11).

Watch the video for 2004’s “Reload” below.
