It will apparently be a multi-part series covering the late icon’s entire life through interviews, archival footage, and photos provided by the estate. DuVernay – the director of Selma and Netflix’s 13th documentary, as well as the upcoming Central Park 5 series – has not offered any official confirmation about this yet, nor has Netflix or Prince’s estate. However, Variety cites multiple sources close to the production who say that the film has the “full co-operation” of Prince’s estate. When Prince died in 2016, he left behind an enormous archive of unreleased music, video footage, and other ephemera, to such a degree that his Paisley Park estate has been hiring archivists to organise what’s there. With a slew of reissues and unreleased tracks set to see the light of day in future, expect more and more Prince-related media to emerge in the coming years.
