The Philly rapper’s breakout video “Mumbo Jumbo” was one of our favourites of 2017, as it introduced us to both her distinctive, slippery flow and her unforgettable, uncomfortable visuals. Today, she releases aform-stretching new project: Whack World exists as both a 15-minute visual and as 15 one-minute songs. From the nail salon to the Chinese takeaway to the mobile home, Tierra’s imagination transports her to a variety of brightly coloured, fantastical takes on realist settings, each one morphing uneasily to match her tone. One moment she’s surrounded by flies as she mumble-raps "fuck it”; the next, she goofs around and sings as she grooms a stuffed dog. It’s a unique vision, and one we can’t tear our eyes away from.
