The tracklist is led by Janelle Monáe, who marked her return with “Make Me Feel”, an unfathomably funky song inspired by her work with Prince. Elsewhere, Frank Ocean makes his own spin on a Breakfast at Tiffany’s classic, and Australian songwriter Courtney Barnett returns with a cut from her first album since her 2015 breakthrough. In and amongst these recognisable names there’s a selection of tracks from emerging and underground acts. Experimental Italian producer Gabber Eleganza subverts rave aesthetics with “Never Sleep”, UK producer Mina spins global club rhythms together on “Allo”, and London band Sorry showcase their distinctive, dark take on guitar music with “2 Down 2 Dance”. Although we post these roundups at the end of every month, we actually update the playlist regularly for our subscribers – so make sure to follow us on Spotify and Apple Music if you can’t stand to wait for new tracks.
