With the icon set to tour the UK, we took a dive into her eternally optimistic feed
Today it was announced that for the first time ever, Britney would be bringing her Las Vegas show Piece of Me to Europe. Among other dates including London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Scarborough(!), the pop legend will be headlining Brighton Pride. Naturally, the first and second release of tickets sold out in seconds. Over 900,000 tickets were sold to Britney’s Vegas show during its run, making it one of the most successful Vegas residencies ever.
All of that is because, after two decades as a popstar and after years of being abused by the industry, press, and general public, Britney Spears is still an icon. She’s beaten all the shit she’s been through to make it to 2018 not only as a still-thriving pop queen, but a mother and a woman with an outrageously positive outlook. Her Instagram is full of cute, unfiltered images of Britney living her best life, and we could all learn a lot from her. Here’s just some of the lessons you could take from @britneyspears.
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO PICK UP A NEW SKILL
Britney is already a singer, a dancer, and a legend. This post proves that that’s not nearly enough – at the age of 36, she’s also getting into painting. Not just painting, but painting very wholesome, colourful pictures in her stunning garden in a sports bra and flowing, open white shirt while classical music plays. Vincent Van who?
USE YOUR VOICE TO RAISE OTHERS
In 2018, there is no use being famous and having a platform if you’re going to abstain from politics. Britney knows this, which is why she posed (to her 18 million followers) in a pro-DACA t-shirt (and her very famous abs) to tell Congress to pass the dream act.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY
Britney, self-proclaimed nerd and fan of Einstein, strives to better herself and be educated in every area of her life, even if it’s outside of her comfort zone. Don’t just stick within what people expect from you – learn everything you can.
PROMOTE OTHER PEOPLE’S WORK
Britney might be extremely talented, famous and good-looking, but that doesn’t mean she’s above supporting others. Her kids draw a lot of Dragonball Z fan art, and instead of saying “sweetie, why even bother trying when your mother is all of this?” she frames their pictures of Goku and shares them to millions of people around the world.
Britney loves to do cute little videos showing off her face and outfits, and why wouldn’t she? She’s Britney and she looks like that. But Britney – and I don't think I’m making too wild an assumption here – would want you to love yourself this much, too.
RAISE OTHER QUEENS
Doing away with stereotypes of cattiness between women (and especially ones this legendary) Britney frequently hangs out with Mariah, promotes J-Lo, and listens to Cyndi Lauper on her videos. She loves to support and talk about how much she loves these women, and we could all stand to learn a little from her outlook.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE CORNY
Britney might be a legend, the likes of which we cannot ever hope to even come close to. But above all else, she’s human. (She’s a mum, too, and that will make you a little corny.) Brit loves to post inspirational memes, and each one is a daily reminder to shed your cold, dark shroud of cynicism and embrace an earnest outlook. The world is horrible and mean and ironic enough. Try some Britney-inspired, ultra-cheesy sincerity once in a while.
