Its soundtrack will come curated by Kendrick Lamar alongside Anthony Tiffith, CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, and you can hear its sweeping first single “All the Stars” – a collaboration between Kendrick and SZA – now. A press release states that Lamar and Tiffith will work directly with director Ryan Coogler on the film’s music, marking the first time Lamar has been so heavily involved with the writing, production, and curation of a major soundtrack. Its full tracklist and release date is currently unconfirmed. “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director,” Kendrick says in a statement accompanying the song. “The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.” “I am honoured to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film,” Coogler adds. “I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store.” Kendrick recently referenced the Black Panther soundtrack in the video for “LOVE.”, taken from last year’s DAMN. SZA’s album Ctrl, meanwhile, was one of our favourites of 2017. Black Panther is out on February 16 and boasts a great cast of black actors, with Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, and Angela Bassett appearing. Listen to “All the Stars” below.
