FKA twigs drops second issue of Instagram mag AVANTgarden

The singer reveals the latest addition to her Instagram digizine

FKA twigs, by her own admission, isn’t necessarily at home on social media. “I’m a very private person,” she told us in October when she launched her Instagram mag AVANTgarden, which acts as a platform for collaboration between music, art, and fashion. With the second issue of AVANTgarden out now, it appears that twigs has found her social media niche.

Where the killer first issue was a visual exploration of braided hairstyles, drawing on images from south London’s black barber shop windows, the second issue takes the title “Dream Warrior” and features more captivating photography along with a poem penned by the musician herself – as well as a new range of FKA twigs apparel, available at her webstore.

Shot by David Ozochukwu (who also shot the campaign for her Nike collaboration), the images honour the issue’s title. You’ll find a myriad of sleepwear from silk pyjamas and eye masks to a range of slogan tees (‘I am an angel, but my back wings give the hardest slap that you’ve ever seen’). Adorned with bold patterns and colours, the PJs were developed in collaboration with Violetta Fancies You – who previously designed a range of pyjamas with Illustrated People. The silk pyjamas, styled by Matthew Josephs, were of particular importance to twigs.

“I’ve always worn my mother’s silk pyjamas on stage from my very first tour,” she explains in a press release, “but they wore out so I wanted to make some of my own. I’m also obsessed with sets and bold prints and, through my exploration of mysticism, I created symbols that protect and invite otherworldly creatures to assist those who wear the sets in their everyday lives. More than anything I wanted people who wear the PJs out into the world to know they know that they look the bomb, even in sleepwear, cause that’s just how they roll.”
