A major Kickstarter campaign from last year saw the group hit $150,000, smashing its target in the space of two days. It’s been 14 years since their last release, and 14 years have passed since Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes’ tragic passing in a car accident. Now the band, who sold more than 75 million records across the world at their peak, are almost finished their 15-track album. The band's first studio album Ooooooohhh… on the TLC Tip and subsequent tunes like “Unpretty” and “Waterfalls” cemented their strong identity as a powerful black female R&B act that set the bar for the wider music industry. The Grammy award-winning trio addressed issues of self-love, female empowerment and focused on the AIDs plight in their wealth of tracks, creating a legacy that resonates with contemporary groups the world over today. A Facebook update from Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas back in June announced that the release would be dropped in the “fourth quarter of the year”, so we should expect another onslaught of R&B bangers soon enough. For now, we’ve got nostalgically sweet “Joy Ride” and a sassy declaration of self love, “Haters”, to tide us over. Listen to both snippets below.
