Seu Jorge played Pele dos Santos in the film, a member of oceanographer Steve Zissou’s (Bill Murray) crew. He sung Bowie tracks like “Space Oddity” and “Life on Mars” in his native Portuguese. An album of his covers, The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions, came out in 2005. After hearing Jorge’s covers, David Bowie himself once said: “Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.” Reports from Pitchfork say the musician will perform the covers in front of screens shaped like boat sails, with clips from the film. As an actor, Jorge also starred in the Rio de Janeiro-based urban crime film City of God as well as The Escapist and House of Sand.
