Now, she’s revealed that the album will also feature a collaboration with Zayn Malik. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Sri Lankan artist said that Malik will appear on a track titled “Freedun”. Talking from India, she said that the track has just been mastered, and that the collaboration was made remotely, written back-and-forth over WhatsApp. “We have the same publishers and they wanted me to demo some songs for Zayn,” she said, “Before I started writing properly my own stuff (for AIM), I was thinking maybe I’ll write for other people instead. I really wanted to write a song for Zayn.” Though these demos weren’t used, it did start the relationship that led to the new collaboration. Elsewhere in the interview, M.I.A. states that she wants to pursue other creative pursuits after AIM is released, to get away from the long campaigns of releasing a record. “You don’t get to just live things out and get involved with communities.
