DublinShareLink copied ✔️June 21, 2016MusicNewsTextSelim Bulut During the 1990s, Aphex Twin created some of music’s most iconic videos with visionary directors like Chris Cunningham, but he hasn’t released an official video for a long time. But today, the pioneering electronic musician has returned with his first music video in 17 years, and it sees him team up with a very different sort of director – a 12-year-old YouTuber from Ireland. The clip for acid belter “CIRKLON3 [Колхозная mix]”, taken from Aphex’s upcoming Cheetah EP, was directed by Ryan Wyer of Rush in Fingal, County Dublin, a small seaside town whose population was recorded at just 9,231 in the 2011 census. Wyer’s video features a lot of kids in Richard D. James masks and Aphex Twin t-shirts getting up to no good, while some Windows Movie Maker-grade filters are applied over the top. It is, in a word, a masterpiece. According to a press release, Wyer directed, edited, and produced the video after Aphex Twin and his label Warp Records became aware of his YouTube channel epic1:40d Gaming, which features titles such as Playing black ops 2 part 2 and Callum Caught on Tape scary video amongst a score of Aphex fan videos. Most of the videos have under 30 plays. Is this real? Aphex Twin is hardly a stranger to pranks and half-truths, so it’d be very easy to assume this is just Richard D. James pulling everyone’s leg once again. If it is a prank, it’s a meticulously planned one – some of the videos on Wyer’s channel are over a year old. Watch the video above.
