MusicNewsWhat we learnt from our Facebook Q&A with GrimesThe electro-pop genius Claire Boucher took over our social media to talk to her fans – here are the best bitsShareLink copied ✔️November 13, 2015MusicNewsTextHannah Rose Ewens It’s been a busy two months for the electro dream-pop visionary, Claire Boucher. After working relentlessly on her outstanding new album Art Angels, shooting a music video as both a bloody Marie Antoinette and a dying angel and doing meeting countless people on her press circuit, she is now stepping boldly into uncharted territory: everyone knowing who Grimes is. After being lucky enough to have her on our most recent cover, today she took over our Facebook to answer your questions. We've rounded up the very best Grimes revelations from the Q&A – here are some snippets from the DIY pop powerhouse: SHE LOVES FKA TWIGS In the most perfect story of admiration imaginable, Boucher stated her appreciation for FKA twigs. “i respect her so much. a savior,” she wrote. Collaboration for 2016? Read more about twigs here. THE REASON ART ANGELS GOT ITS NAME For an album entirely illustrated by Boucher herself, it’d seem pretty evident where she got its title from. Who is she if not an Art Angel herself? But that’s not where the inspiration came from. “I refer to the demons in my head as the art angels,” she revealed. Art Angels artwork DON’T EXPECT ANY POP PRODUCTION ANY TIME SOON Art Angels is poppier and perhaps more commercially pleasing than any of her previous work, which probably prompted one Facebook user to ask whether she could imagine producing a song for a pop singer. No explanation needed, just a simple “no”. Probably for the best. Just more Grimes records ad infinitum, please. VISIONS IS UNFINISHED The album which cemented her as an electro-pop visionary couldn’t be anything but perfectly whole and considered. But apparently Visions isn’t finished to Boucher’s standard. “My old manager had set a release date for visions before I ever started it, so i consider it unfinished,” she wrote. “Artangels i think is just more finished so there are more lyrics.” SHE MAY BE RELEASING SONGS WHICH DIDN’T MAKE THE CUT Art Angels has already been rinsed – “California” and “Flesh Without Blood” have been the soundtrack of our weekend and will be again. If you’re already hungry got for more Grimes music, you could be in luck. Talking about a song she’s been playing live for a few years, she explained: “[Unreleased track] ya vas lyubil is actually just me interpolating a pushkin poem, so its not really my song to release per se, its more of a live jamsmile emoticon heart emoticon”. She added: “i may release some other songz later that didnt make the cut.” JOURNALISTS TAKE HER JOKES OUT OF CONTEXT Many of the interviews from this album cycle have explored the idea of a “mainstream” Grimes which has been partly a product of press. One user asked Boucher about when she apparently said she wished she had never made songs like Oblivion. “I never said that. Someone asked me how it feels to play the same songs every night and i was explaining in a self deprecating manner that sometimes it makes you hate ur own music. it was a joke that was taken out of context by journalists. they like to fuck with me for clickbait”.
