Music / First LookEscape into Purple Ferdinand's dreamsSee a reindeer running through the snow with its woes in the singer's surprising new video for ‘In My Dreams’ShareLink copied ✔️March 2, 2015MusicFirst LookTextAimee Cliff Singer-songwriter, sometime ukulele player and self-taught tattooist Purple Ferdinand is full of contradictions. That's plain as day on her latest EP, Lovebound, released last week; four introspective, soulful slow jams written during a “dark and vulnerable” time, when Purple – real name Vanessa – learned to “love the hate” to pull herself through. That theme of finding the light in darkness is all over her subtle, stunning, kind of hilarious new video for single "In My Dreams," where a reindeer wanders through Stockholm in the snow checking out public transport, basketball courts and – with some bewilderment – taxidermy. “The reindeer to me represents strength but an innocent, inquisitive modesty,” says Vanessa. Meanwhile, she's far away in a mysterious tropical location, plunging the viewer from ice to blazing heat with each camera cut and each flourish of her masterful voice. To Vanessa, the song captures those daydream-y moments when we dodge reality by venturing into our own minds – “where we feel safe, where there is nobody to tell us otherwise, where we can heal.” Escape the algorithm!
