That’s Mika Miko and Abe Vigoda, part of the DIY Smell community (the inspirational all-ages club in downtown LA) which cultured fuzzy, lo-fi guitar heroes No Age and Brendan Fowler’s poetic, kinda-spoken-word troupe, BARR. Exclusively for Dazed, Mika Miko (Jessie Clavin, Jenna Thornhill, Seth Densham, Jennifer Clavin and Michelle Suarez) guide us around their favourite Los Angeles city spots. Oh, and Abe Vigoda’s new single “Live Long” (from their punked-up debut “Skeleton”) drops on the 2nd December too on Bella Union/PPM. Here’s Michelle Suarez of Mika Miko’s L.A. TOP 51. Amoeba Music - Where I go to buy records when I can’t venture out to Orange County.2. In-N-Out Burger - Grilled cheese, raw onions, animal fries, diet coke.3. The BatCade batting cages - Where I go to hit 75mph softballs or baseballs for an hour, play air hockey, rule at Area 51 and eat pizza.4. Downtown Los Angeles Public Library - Do I even need to explain?!5. The Smell - Duh.I can’t do Top 5 LA people because I’d be leaving out too many. I have too many faves, I guess. But I will tell you my top pseudo-celeb of LA - Angelyne.DazedDigital: What does it mean being a young musician in LA today?Michelle Suarez: Seriously, I am so grateful for everything. We have been able to play shows all over the Unites States, Europe, UK and Japan because people like our band and come see us play. It really makes sense of what we are doing when a sweaty, smiling kid says: “Great show”. Right now is really an awesome time for LA and I’m glad that we are/have been a big part of The Smell community. I’ve been told that people are very inspired by it. That means a lot.
