Hailing from L.A., the hauntingly enigmatic sister duo take 'lo-fi' to a new level with deliciously soft and laid-back retro sounds
The ethereal LA-based ladies Piper and Skylar Kaplan are living their dream, forming the hazy pop duo, Puro Instinct, and touring with their fan and close friend Ariel Pink. His background vocals also feature in the sparkly rainbow vibes in the video to their first single 'Stilyagi', whilst additional band members Cody Porter, Jessie Clavin, Mike Baum, and Crazy Murray also help fuel the former dual package Puro Instinct for new live sounds. Their first full-length debut, "Headbangers in Ecstasy" is out now via Record Makers.
...your best party trick?
"The French Exit" AKA taking off without saying bye to anyone!
...your worst vice?
Depends on my mood, but pretty much whatever.
…the story behind your name?
We picked it because we knew it would be fun to hear the spectrum of "Puro" pronunciations, which is a slight upgrade from the low-brow shock tactic we implemented with "Pearl Harbor".
... your favourite sound?
...the best thing about working with a sibling?
Not sure, but it definitely helps to have an under-aged person in the band when you need more drink tickets.
...the best thing about where you're from?
The Emerald Triangle.
...at the top of your shit list?
Eddie Money. I have the chorus to "Take Me Home Tonight" stuck in my head pretty much always, along with an image of him singing in the ring from the video. No way to live.
...are you listening to now?
I've been listening to Val Young's "Seduction" album a lot. Rick James arranged/produced some of the jams so it's pretty hot!
How would you describe your work?
