This September, Dazed is teaming up with London’s Working Men’s (WM) College to launch Dazed Club Academy – a new editorial, social and event series which will offer hundreds of next-generation creatives networking opportunities and the chance to learn hands-on skills through comprehensive in-person workshops and courses.

WM College is one of the UK’s oldest education institutions and Europe’s oldest and longest-running centre for adult learning, and has long been committed to making education accessible for people of all backgrounds, abilities and circumstances. We’re teaming up with them to put Dazed’s mission – to empower the next generation through creativity – into practice.

Dazed Club Academy will offer free, in-person taster workshops for beginners across a range of disciplines, encompassing everything from ceramics, to printmaking, to jewellery design and more. These workshops are designed to help learners bolster existing skills and work towards future goals, leading into WM College’s broader, skill-focused course offerings.

At the end of each season, Dazeddigital.com will publish a Dazed Club Academy How-To Guide featuring expert insights, practical tips and advice from WM College course leaders, enabling readers to build their skills wherever they are.

Beam Me Up! – Laser Cutting Basics  

Wednesday 17th September, 6pm - 9pm

In this hands-on, three-hour workshop, you will dive into the world of laser cutting. Whether you’re into fashion, product design, zines or just love making stuff, this intro session is your gateway to turning bold ideas into sharp, cut-out reality.  

You’ll learn how to take a sketch or digital drawing, prep it for the laser cutter, and watch as it gets sliced into wood, acrylic, or card with stunning precision. From choosing materials to setting up files and hitting “GO”, we’ll walk you through the basics, share pro tips, and make space for experimentation.  

By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with your first custom laser-cut design.

Introduction to Kintsugi  

Thursday 18th September, 6pm - 9pm  

A short introduction to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which beautifully repairs broken ceramics. This course is for beginners, and no previous experience is required. You will use a combination of new materials like epoxy glue and putty, and traditional Japanese red Urushi lacquer and natural pearl gold powder as an alternative to real gold to repair the plate.   

All materials and a small plate to practice are included. You can bring your own ceramic piece for an assessment and group discussion, but you will practice the technique on the plate provided.
