Polyester launches new fellowship for working class journalists

In honour of the late Eden Young, Polyester Zine has launched a raffle to fund a new grant

Early today (January 18), Polyester, the intersectional feminist arts and culture publication, launched a raffle to fund the Eden Young Fellowship for Aspiring Working Class Journalists.

Last year, their managing editor and podcast co-host, Eden Young, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 29. Young was a proud working-class woman in journalism, a rarity in the media industry, wherein over 80 per cent of journalists come from professional and upper-class backgrounds. She had no formal training in journalism, yet she flourished at Polyester, learning everything as she went along.

To honour her incredible legacy, Polyester Zine is launching this fellowship to employ a working-class journalist who will receive a fully paid, full-time, year-long position at Polyester

Prizes from the raffle include designer items from the likes of Heaven by Marc Jacobs and Maison Valentino, mentorship and feedback from creatives such as Tavi Gevinson, Eliza Clark and Amelia Dimoldenberg, an annotated copy of Susan Sontag’s On Photography annotated by Rayne Fisher-Quann, archival Dazed magazines along with makeup from the Dazed beauty cupboard, a one night stay at the Hoxton, with dinner and breakfast included, vinyls, signed film posters and so much more.

For just £10 per ticket, you could be in for a chance to win any of these special prizes, going towards an even more special cause. Entries close on February 9, and the draw will take place at the end of that month.
