Join Dazed and GOAT for a day of free fashion and culture workshops

The NEW VISIONS programme will provide tips and tricks to empower the next generation in the creative industries, from fashion archiving to sneaker design, featuring Blondey McCoy, Helen Kirkum, Wavey Garms’ Rhiannon Barry, Archie Maher, and more

Want to gain insight into the present and future of fashion and culture? Get some insight from leading creatives to make your own break? Dazed is teaming up with GOAT to present NEW VISIONS, a blockbuster day of free public workshops and talks that will empower, spotlight, and champion the next generation of creative people.

The series of intimate and up close events from Dazed and GOAT, a global platform for the greatest products from the past, present and future, will take place at Dazed’s HQ at 180 The Strand in London, and will be free to attend via the sign-up raffle below. People can look forward to a colourful day of programme, with perspective, tips, and tricks from industry experts including artist, designer, and skateboarder Blondey McCoy, designer Helen Kirkum, Wavey Garms founder Rhiannon Barry, and archivist, fashion consultant, and re-seller Archie Maher.

The programme parallels GOAT’s exciting launch in Europe, and a moment that sees the marketplace move from its classic streetwear archival beginnings into luxe fashion archival on its platform.

‘Sneaker sculpture’ is the day’s first event, featuring artist and designer Helen Kirkum, a creative who got her start as a designer in adidas Originals and who then went on to found her own acclaimed namesake brand that specialises in reworking discarded and recycled sneakers. Kirkum is lauded for her craftsmanship and wearable, imaginative, revolutionising works that celebrate sustainability. This event will be a hands-on workshop that will explore inventive, different approaches to sneaker design. Participants will create their own sneaker designs using discarded materials, packaging, and household waste – think newspaper clippings, cereal boxes – to highlight how waste can inspire, and be reimagined into radical new shapes and styles.

The second programming moment is the panel ‘Mining the archives for fashion today’, featuring Wavey Garms and Ninety fly founder Rihannon Barry and archivist, consultant, and Arco Maher founder Archie Maher, all hosted by Dazed’s Fashion Features Director Emma Davidson. This panel will go in on the world of fashion archiving and its nebulous communities, discussing how British subcultures continue to influence today’s luxury fashion landscape, and what the future of fashion looks like to those with an eye on the most iconic and enduring elements of the past.

The final talk of the day will be ‘How to get your foot in the door’, headed up by Blondey McCoy and hosted by arts and culture writer and editor Ashleigh Kane. The talk will trace Blondey’s journey as a skater (skating for the likes of Palace and adidas from as young as 14) to artist and designer, as a 24-year-old creative director of his own brand Thames and collaborator with brands including adidas, Valentino, and Burberry. They’ll dive deep on his career highlights and biggest challenges, the advice that got him through and insight into his creative visions, for what’s now and next.

Dazed’s Executive Editorial Director Lynette Nylander said: “How can artists build authentic, long-lasting relationships with brands? How might the next generation break the barriers into the industry? This series of intimate events offers Dazed’s audiences free access to incredible talent and expertise so that together they can create, collaborate and exchange ideas.”

Sen Sugano, Chief Brand Officer of GOAT said: “Supporting the next generation of creatives is an essential part of our ongoing vision to inspire individuals to be their greatest. We’re excited to partner with Dazed to bring this experience to life by providing insights and opportunities to young creatives who want to break into the industry.”

NEW VISIONS will take place on Sunday September 12 at the Dazed Space, 180 Strand in London.
