Kim Kardashian has helped free another prisoner

The man from Miami served 22 years for a low-level drug offence

Following Kim Kardashian’s involvement in the freeing of Alice Marie Johnson – a then-62-year-old woman who’d spent over 20 years behind bars – the reality star continued to flex her massive influence in the realm of prison reform. Now, it seems, her advocacy – probably helped by her 137 million social media followers – has helped free someone else.

“We did it again!” Kardashian writes in a tweet (May 3). “Had the best call w/this lovely family & my attorney @msbkb who just won release for their loved one Jeffrey in Miami.”

“Jeffrey in Miami” has apparently served 22 years of a life sentence for a low-level drug case already, and the Kim K influence – and dollars – have led to his exoneration.

It’s a weird one; there’s definitely something a bit dystopian about relying on the rich and famous to fight such injustice, but at the same time at least something’s getting done, if only one case at a time.

As it turns out, Kim is also in the midst of studying for a law degree, though her attitude to the amount of work (see: the “studying” image above) has drawn criticism from other figures in the field. Let’s hope she can put it to some good use.
