David Lynch’s Twin Peaks props, Eraserhead prints, and more go to auction

A large collection of objects from David Lynch’s life and career are set to go up for auction, following the director’s passing in January this year. Among the items up for sale? The famed red curtains and zig-zag carpet of the Black Lodge, Lynch’s personalised director’s chair, and espresso machines used by the filmmaker himself.

Run by Julien’s auction house, the sale features almost 450 lots ranging in price from $10,000 (for an L-shaped sofa by one of Lynch’s favourite designers, Vladimir Kagan) to just $50 or $100 for various homeware like dinner plates, cutlery, and teapots. “This auction offers a rare look into his creative universe,” reads a statement from the auction house, “featuring personal artifacts and film-related items from his home that reflect his singular artistic vision.”

Among the highlights are several electric guitars and effects pedals, from Lynch’s many musical exploits, as well as his personal record collection featuring names such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, The B-52’s, The Moody Blues, and This Mortal Coil. His Sony LaserDisc player also comes with a range of films, including his own work and that of his daughter, Jennifer Lynch, alongside Taxi Driver, Last Tango in Paris, This is Spinal Tap, and more.

Twin Peaks fans are especially in luck. As well as the curtain-slash-carpet combo from the Black Lodge, the auction features the atom bomb artwork from Gordon Cole’s office in Twin Peaks: The Return, as well as a sheriff department lamp, memorabilia items, and a denim shirt that was gifted to crew on the 1990s production.

Scripts for Twin Peaks (under its original title, Northwest Passage), Fire Walk With Me, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and the unfinished Ronnie Rocket are also up for grabs, plus Lynch’s personal 35mm print of Eraserhead.
