Now, the actor has shared a first look at his character, and it’s… something. “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last… WONKA,” Chalamet wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself looking sultry in a brown top hat, red velvet coat, and a patterned cravat. Obviously, Chalamet fans are thirsting over the photo – adding to the recent sexualisation of the idiosyncratic Roald Dahl character, primarily thanks to the sexy (normally shirtless) Willy Wonka TikTok account. Comments under the Call Me By Your Name star’s post include, “Why is my back arching”, “Daddy? Sorry daddy? Sorry daddy? Sorry”, and “Someone grab my inhaler I can’t w this man”. Little is known about the film’s plot, aside from three facts: it will track Wonka’s adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory, as seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie Bucket won’t be featured (obviously, because he wouldn’t have been born yet), and Chalamet will be doing some singing and dancing. The movie – created by Warner Bros and the Roald Dahl Story Co – is based on characters created by Dahl, and is set to be directed by Paul King. Fans of Chalamet can treat themselves to a double dose on October 22, as the actor stars in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and Wes Anderson’s much-delayed The French Dispatch. The actor also joins the cast of Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, which is out on Netflix on December 24, and Luca Guadagnino’s Bones & All, which is currently in production.
