Starring a hyperventilating Leonardo DiCaprio as a professor, Dr. Randall Mindy, and Jennifer Lawrence as an astronomy grad student, Kate Dibiasky, the film also features appearances from the likes of Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, and Kid Cudi (AKA Scott Mescudi). In particular, the trailer focuses on a conversation between DiCaprio and Lawrence’s characters, and the president, Meryl Streep, along with a member of her administration, played by Jonah Hill. Both appear to dismiss the scientists’ claims about the imminent apocalypse. An official synopsis sheds more light on their discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system: “The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate.” “With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical,” the description goes on. “What will it take to get the world to just look up?!” Written and directed by McKay, Don’t Look Up is set to be released by Netflix on December 24, following a limited run in cinemas the same month. McKay is also currently working on Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite TV series adaptation, providing an update on the “original story” earlier this year. Watch the new teaser trailer for Don’t Look Up below.
