Earlier this month, Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York were spotted back on the streets of New York City as Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis returned to the Upper East Side to start filming the hotly-anticipated Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That.
Though many key characters and crew are missing from the revival – including Kim Cattrall (Samanatha Jones) and the show’s original costume designer Patricia Field – some of the show’s main love interests, namely Aiden (John Corbett), Steve (David Eigenberg), Harry (Evan Handler), and Mr Big (Chris Noth), are slated to make an appearance. Now, a newly leaked script has revealed that the latter’s relationship with Carrie is set to be just as rocky as it always was.
As reported by Page Six, the reboot sees Carrie and Big in the midst of a messy divorce. The pair finally got married at the end of the first Sex and the City movie, after Big jilted the columnist at the altar earlier in the film.
In the leaked script, Carrie – who’s now a podcast host in her 50s – is bemoaning her divorce with Big to her friends, as the ex-lovers fight over finances. The scene sees Carrie having dinner with Miranda, Charlotte, and GBF Stanford Blatch (reprised by Willie Garson). “I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair,” she tells them. “Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?”
TBC if this hints at Big’s infidelity, or if Carrie is simply referring to Big’s previous wives, including Barbara (Noelle Beck) and Natasha Naginsky (Bridget Moynahan) – the latter of whom Big cheated on with Carrie.
Though some characters may remain as insufferable as ever, one character will hopefully inject some positivity into the show. That is, Sex and the City’s first ever non-binary character (played by Sara Ramiez), a stand-up comic and podcaster “with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humour and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular”.
And Just Like That will consist of ten episodes and will premiere on HBO Max – a release date is yet to be confirmed. See some sneak previews of the reboot below.
