Edie Falco, AKA Carmela Soprano from The Sopranos, is set to play Hillary Clinton in Impeachment, which – you guessed it – will tackle former president Bill Clinton’s notorious impeachment trial of 1998-1999. Falco will be joined by Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky, Sarah Paulson and Annaleigh Ashford as civil servants Linda Tripp and Paula Jones respectively, Margo Martindale as literary agent Lucianne Goldberg, Billy Eichner as political commentator and creator of the Drudge Report Matt Drudge, as well as Betty Gilpin as author and lawyer Ann Coulter. The series will be based on Jeffrey Toobin’s 1999 book, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, which offers a definitive account of Clinton’s affair with Lewinsky and the subsequent fallout. Impeachment is the third season in the American Crime Story anthology, following 2016’s The People v. O.J. Simpson and 2018’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace. This series is being written by Sarah Burgess, who’s also set to executive produce alongside Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, Hannah Fidell, and Paulson. Lewinsky herself is joining as a producer. “FX’s American Crime Story franchise has become a cultural touchstone, providing greater context for stories that deserve greater understanding,” said FX Productions chief John Landgraf. “This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced, and entertaining.” He continued: “Impeachment: American Crime Story will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton presidency.” The series was originally meant to air in September 2020, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It doesn’t currently have an updated premiere date. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday. Privacy policy Thank you.
