The show tweeted several promo pictures of the cast before the first instalment of its ninth season aired in the US last night, saying: “Welcome to Camp Redwood ’84.” Emma Roberts, last seen as Madison Montgomery in Apocalypse, will return to the teen slasher series as timid ‘nice girl’ Brooke Thompson. She will be joined by a few AHS veterans, including Billie Lourd, who plays rocker rebel Montana Duke, Leslie Grossman, portraying head camp counselor Margaret Booth, and Cody Fern, who’s taking on the role of Xavier Plympton. The new season will also see John Carroll Lynch (AKA Twisty the Clown) return – this time as a hooded serial killer named Mr Jingles. Making his debut to the franchise is Olympic gold medallist skier Gus Kenworthy, playing Brooke’s jock boyfriend, Chet Clancy. The cast also welcomes Dear White People’s DeRon Horton as the fun-loving Ray Powell, blissfully unaware of the nightmarish summer that awaits him. The ninth season of Ryan Murphy’s 80s-inspired horror franchise follows a group of teens as they spend a hellish summer at Camp Redwood – “the site of the worst summer massacre of all time”. There, they will be terrorised by a psychotic killer (Mr Jingles) who is on the loose after escaping from a nearby asylum – expect slashing, scares and sex aplenty.
