New updates have revealed that Chewing Gum star and creator, and Black Mirror actor Michaela Coel is set to join an all-star cast of guest judges for the drag queen competition. Coel joins Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall who had been previously announced. Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield is also among the guest judges weighing in on who’s sickening and who has to sashay away. In a statement, Coel expressed one of the show’s core values: “I love that you have to dare, you have to dare and you have to drop all your societal norms and restraints that you’ve been taught and you have to dare to embody something higher”. “The creativity is always totally outside the box and it’s one of the many reasons I watch and love this show,” Garfield’s statement reiteratured. Maisie Williams was announced as a guest judge back in May: “What I love the most about drag is the story of the drag queen behind the facade. I think that so much of drag comes from a place of real pain and seeing how that transforms into a character is so interesting to me. I love that about art and about drag.” Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall also previously said: “I love absolutely everything about drag. I love that it’s art. I love how fabulous it is, how fun it is.” RuPaul is reportedly heavily involved in the UK reboot process, making it the first international edition hosted by the queen mother – although the Thai version looks absolutely sickening, despite Ru’s absence. Talk show hosts Graham Norton and Alan Carr were also previously confirmed for the main panel, as well as Drag Race mainstay Michelle Visage. As of yet, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has not announced an air date, but will debut the first of eight episodes on BBC Three, available on the iPlayer app later this year. And though no UK queens have ruvealed their involvement just yet, we’ve run through some of our faves that we would love to see on the Ru-made runway.
