Set for debut this summer, the trailer for the show is all about love. “That’s what this show is all about. It starts with loving yourself, because if you can’t love yourself how in the hell are you going to love somebody else,” says Ru, dressed in one of his slick suits usually saved for the Drag Race Werk Room. Before his culturally-shifting reality competition show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, the drag performer originally made history as one of the first openly gay hosts on television in the first generation of his talk show on VH1, The RuPaul Show. This series is being executive produced by Jill Van Lokeren, a former senior producer on the much missed Oprah Show, so the expectations are high. “Entertaining and heartfelt in everything he does, the show will feature (RuPaul) Charles’ modern take on the talk format. He will showcase his aspirational message with celebrity and newsmaker interviews, along with empowering everyday people to become their best selves,” a show statement says. “Now more than ever before we need a global voice that will help everyday people navigate this unique time in history. Not only do I want to be a part of that conversation, I want to help facilitate it,” says the legendary drag performer. Attuned to the desire and importance of talking about topics in times of political and social plight in the US, RuPaul’s infectious energy couldn’t come at a better time.
