The screening and party was the culmination of a two year long project to build a platform for young filmmakers. Based around the theme of ‘micro-cultures’ of young people embracing positive rebellion, the three chosen filmmakers were commissioned to document young people from across the globe resisting their situation and creating something inspiring. The stories depict the power of the individual and show how positive social impact can be achieved by going against the grain and opposing pressure. The three commissioned films, Skateistan by Orlando Von Einsiedel, Cult Youth by Coco Wang and Mi You, and The Boys From Ponta Preta by Thierry Albert and Marcus Werner Hed, have a powerful message, and the transfixed audience applauded as each film ended. From 9.30 onwards, the evening took on a more lighthearted pace as Severino from Horse Meat Disco took to the decks and industry insiders, filmmakers, Dazed friends and everyone else got down and dirty until midnight.
