A raised red stage in the venue would set the scene as a raw take on the red carpet and when the Pop Idol/American Idol started to be jumbled up with excerpts from films expressing fame-searching sentiments, it was clear that Miuccia was making commentary on five-minute fame searching that is rife today. And so from that there was a loose abstraction on the star itself or all things bright-eyed and shiny beginning with satin dresses that flared out into a slight A-line knee length shape (classic Miuccia there) with box pleats that would block a highly graphic palette of red, neon yellow, black, white, cobalt with other neon touches in the accessories, collar detail and the devastating poppy shoes. The star got worked into a print where clusters of it would come together in monochrome, sometimes accented in red. It was also enlarged over one side of a pleated dress that burst with neon yellow at the top. The real wow factor (X Factor?) came with the Americana 'pow' star signs which were appliquéd over skirts and on the boxy round-shouldered metallic leather jackets. Curiously hearts also made it into the motif mix as well as an art-nouveau-ish looking floral which also adorned said jackets, as though indications of nature were trying to counteract the energy of the stars. A swan print as well as a snake winding up a tree depicted on satin dresses could be read with allegorical meaning but perhaps we're not meant to read into it given that the collection probably only meant to lightly comment on celebrity culture as opposed to tackling head on - at the end of the day it still is about desirable clothes that make you go all starry-eyed.
