YouTubeFashionThe Kylie Minogue fashion moments we can’t get out of our headsAs she releases a new single and Netflix documentary, we take a look back at Kylie’s rise from pop princess to fashion royaltyShareLink copied ✔️May 20, 2026May 20, 2026Text Isobel Van Dyke Kylie Minogue's greatest fashion moments Kylie Minogue might not be the first name you think of when it comes to internet-breaking fashion moments. And yet, her sartorial choices have caused global frenzy on multiple occasions. The most famous example of this happened in 2000, when the Australian singer released her comeback single “Spinning Around”. In the music video, Minogue crawls across a bar wearing a pair of gold lamé hotpants, originally purchased at a flea market for 50p. But the British press didn’t care that they were cheap, instead becoming so obsessed with Kylie’s derriere that The Sun sponsored a campaign to have it heritage-listed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. “If an alien landed on Earth he would think Kylie's arse is the world's leader,” commented broadcaster Johnny Vaughan. A year later, in 2001, she released “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, debuting another legendary look: the plunging white jumpsuit. “It was pure but kind of slutty at the same time,” said William Baker, her stylist at the time. It was created by London-based designer Fee Doran, who had been inspired by looks worn by Grace Jones – likely referencing her Alaïa ensembles. In the same year, Kylie caused yet another fashion scandal when she starred in an advert for lingerie brand Agent Provocateur. It starts with the singer claiming that “Agent Provocateur is the most erotic lingerie in the world”. She proceeds by thrashing about in lingerie while riding a mechanical bull, closing the advert with the incredible line: “Now, for the proof. Would all the men in the audience stand up?” Of course, it was swiftly banned, but was still crowned the greatest cinema advert of all time by Digital Cinema Media. Between then and now, Kylie has befriended some of the greatest fashion designers of our time, among them Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier, who wrote the introduction to her 2012 book, Kylie / Fashion. “You change, you transform yourself, you adapt with the evolution of times, fashions and desires … and still you always stay yourself: our Kylie!” Gaultier writes. Earlier this month, she spoke to Dazed exclusively about working with Jonathan Anderson, as well as the story of how they first met (dancing at a Met Gala afterparty in 2024). Then, last month, she went viral yet again. After creative director Matthieu Blazy used Kylie’s tracks in several of his recent Chanel shows, he tapped Margot Robbie to recreate the 2001 music video for “Come Into My World”. The Chanel campaign video was directed by Michel Gondry, who shot the original video. Naturally, the fashion industry was bowled over and it quickly went viral. Today, Kylie releases her hotly anticipated Netflix documentary, dropping a new single to go alongside it. She’s also teased a 2027 tour, and already told us she has big plans for this year’s Fever anniversary. To celebrate the pop icon’s big day, we take a look back at all her best fashion moments.
