Fashion / Round-up Fashion / Round-up Timothée Chalamet: Watch the Beautiful Boy take on the beautiful gameThe actor has swapped ping-pong for football in adidas’ new campaign. Plus: all the other news you missed this weekShareLink copied ✔️May 8, 2026May 8, 2026Text Isobel Van Dyke Did adidas just drop the advert of the decade? Yes, according to the YouTube comments left under its new short film campaign, Backyard Legends. Directed by Mark Molloy, the ad features an impressive all-star cast led by narrator Timothée Chalamet, who assembles his football dream team to take on three unbeatable neighbourhood kids. Up for the challenge are Jude Bellingham, Lamine Yamal, and Trinity Rodman, while David Beckham, Bad Bunny, Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi all make cameos. With the FIFA men’s World Cup officially kicking off next month, sportswear brands are beginning to show their hands – and adidas just delivered a royal flush. “Nike you have 24 hours to respond,” read one of the YouTube comments, which the US brand undoubtedly will. The ad also acts as further proof that the Marty Supreme actor loves sports. On Monday, Chalamet skipped the Met Gala to attend the Knicks game, and now, he’s leaving his ping-pong era behind him to dive feet first into the World Cup. “I used to dream of playing with these guys – you know, I was playing at Pier 40 as a kid, thinking about Beckham’s free kicks, Del Piero’s goals, and Zidane’s volleys – doing my own versions,” he says. “I love this game, so it’s unbelievable to be doing this with adidas, captured with the best to ever do it. I’m a traditionalist, I don’t know soccer, I know football, and I can’t wait for this summer’s World Cup.” Elsewhere in fashion this week, we witnessed the sartorial Super Bowl with the aforementioned Met Gala taking over feeds around the world on Monday night (catch up with all our coverage here). We met the coolest girl on the internet, Indian designer Diya Joukani, and caught up with Ella Devi, the 18-year-old fashion intern pissing off Trump’s America.
