Given how overstimulating our world has become, it’s not surprising that so many people are now turning to nature to find solace. And, with the growth of the influencer economy, it’s also not surprising that some have chosen to take to the internet to share their experiences with experiencing the outdoors, too. One of those people is Roger Scott, a 34-year-old content creator based in Las Vegas. Also a husband and father, Scott shares his running milestones, like his recent New York Marathon, along with scenes from his family life online. It’s safe to say that his content has resonated with audiences, gaining him a growing audience and, most recently, the opportunity to collaborate with Oakley. After teaming up with the brand to test out its new Field Gear Line, Scott caught up with us to talk running, family traditions and getting out of autopilot. What is your earliest outdoors-related memory? Roger Scott: One of the most special outdoor memories recently was taking our son to the lake for the first time. Watching him experience the water and seeing his smile while doing the same things I grew up doing was really special. It reminded me of all the times my dad and I were out there together when I was a kid, and it felt like that tradition was coming full circle. What is something you always bring with you on an adventure? Roger Scott: A camera. Capturing moments has always been a big part of my life, and I love being able to document the adventure and look back on those memories later. When do you feel the most grounded or at peace? Roger Scott: Sunrise runs and sunset runs for sure. Being outside, moving my body and getting fresh air always resets my mind. I also love going on spontaneous adventures with my wife and exploring somewhere new. What is the top adventure on your bucket list right now? Roger Scott: Spending a summer in Italy with my family. Exploring, hiking, eating amazing food, getting out on the water and really taking our time experiencing the culture together. If you had a free plane ride to anywhere in the world, where would you go? Roger Scott: Italy, without a doubt. I would take my wife and my son and adventure through the country. Enjoying the food, beautiful hikes, crystal blue water, boating and just spending that time together. What is one piece of advice you would give to those looking to get outdoors more? Roger Scott: Keep it simple. You do not need crazy gear or anything fancy. Just get outside. Go for a walk, go for a hike, rent a boat, explore somewhere new. The most important part is just starting. What does going into the field mode mean to you? Roger Scott: To me, going field mode means breaking the routine. Getting outside and not being on autopilot every day. It is about adding variety to life, being present, exploring and making life feel adventurous.
