Beginning as a DIY takeover of Hackney Wick a few years ago, it’s now moved to a newly designed South London site, and this year saw the festival take a massive step up. The park was packed by 1pm, with every queer party worth knowing, including Playbody, HOWL, Pxssy Palace, Riposte, Adonis and many more running takeovers. On top of standout performances from Lady Shaka, Mura Musa, Romy and Body Movements co-founder Saoirse, the day created an unmistakable spark of queer collaboration, soundtracked best perhaps by Saoirse’s Nelly Furtado edit of “Give It To Me”. In addition to the booming soundsystem, which had the entire park pumping from every stage, the festival hosted a range of activities from a vogueing workshop that saw the whole of South London moving in unity, to HOWL’s sit-down beanbag speed-dating. Elsewhere, the Mooch Village, an area of independent pop-up stalls featuring unique one-off pieces by queer designers and brands, included names like MISSTHING, jen’s jems, Kabo Clothing, Lucky Bitch Soho, MANIACC MAKEUP and ouiiii baah. All in all, Body Movements 2025 saw some of the best fits of the summer, with not a demure look in sight. Instead, we saw an explosion of unabashed self-expression – think pink thongs, harnesses in every colour, slogans t-shirts, fishnets, corsets and more.
