Though that may be an extremely difficult image to top, the French maison might’ve just done it, bringing together two iconic fashion forces for the very first time. Released this afternoon (July 28), Saint Laurent has just announced none other than Kate Moss and Chloë Sevigny as the new faces of its AW25 women’s campaign, shot by Mert Alas in the LA heat. The campaign starts with Moss on her own, reclining behind the wheel of a convertible in a faux fur coat and sunglasses, her Loulou bag resting on the seat next to her. After a quick sojourn to the beach, the supermodel is then joined by Sevigny in the pool of one of those big LA mansions, where they grip onto each other in the water. Elsewhere, Sevigny is photographed on her own in the pool, Moss gets another solo shot on the edge of a bed, and the two come together again bundled under one big coat on a windswept beach. Also starring US model Frankie Rayder, the campaign – ‘Velvet Heat’ – was spearheaded by creative director Anthony Vaccarello, who invited Moss to “make the clothes her own”, according to an accompanying press release. The combined clout of Chloë and Kate is enough to send most fashion fans into a frenzy, and this may be the first time the duo have been photographed together. The pair did both walk Miuccia Prada’s SS96 Miu Miu show, where Sevigny followed Moss in the line-up, so there are photos of them together on that runway and backstage – but this is the first time we’ve seen them come together for a campaign. And for those who can’t get enough of the new duo, the Saint Laurent ads come with a mini-film starring the pair. Also directed by Alas, the clip sees Moss recite a poem written by the photographer while grainy images of the models play. “I’ve run through cities that forgot my name/And left fingerprints in places you’ll never find,” says the voiceover. “I laugh too loud in quiet rooms/And I leave before the music stops/Every fucking time,” it continues. Elsewhere, Moss and Sevigny frolic on the beach, swim in the pool, and get all Thelma & Louise with it, racing towards the sunset in a speedy convertible.
