Since it dropped on June 7, 2024, the record’s 15 songs (and subsequent 17 remix tracks) have been practically inescapable, soundtracking every single party, afterparty, festival and TikTok for the past 12 months. But as much as the whole phenomenon has been about the music, the Brat attitude can also be defined by its aesthetic, and, in turn, the fashion. Ever since “Von Dutch” dropped as the first music video of the era, Charli’s obsession with micro shorts, leather boots and blacked-out shades began, and since then evolved into a collection of frilly leotards, faux fur coats and enough shredded rara skirts to clothe a small village. And with the birth of a main pop girl comes a legion of copycat stans practicing her every move, something that has been evident at every post-Brat gig. We saw it at the O2 in November, when a sea of xcx clones descended on North Greenwich station, and we saw it this past weekend, when Charli xcx presents Party Girl came to LIDO Festival in London’s Victoria Park. From the moment you stepped into the festival, Charli’s clubrats were everywhere to see, decked out in wraparound sunnies, denim hotpants, studded belts and pleated minis. The slogan tee trend really picked up in 2025 and it continued at LIDO, with loads of people in makeshift ‘Brat’ merch, but also wearing other slogans too, like Conner Ives’ ‘Protect the Dolls’ tee, or one other punter who just wore one that said ‘CUNT’ on it. From leopard print micro shorts to glittering hoods and bright pink hair, the Brat attitude at LIDO was all about letting loose and having fun, and everyone certainly got the memo. Dare we say...
