Miley Cyrus is finally taking fashion cues from her godmother Dolly

Waking up at the crack of dawn to tease her hair into an inexplicable bouffant, the singer’s recent dedication to high glamour is straight from the Parton playbook

This is a Miley Cyrus stan account. Since realising this, I have attempted to change Dazed’s Twitter avi to a shot of Cyrus in new season Alaïa, but I’m told this is a breach of “journalistic standards”, whatever that could mean. Yes, this is now a Miley Cyrus stan account, but not for her recent contributions to pop – it’s for her steadfast commitment to stopping for the paps and turning a look. Over the past weekend, the Southern superstar traipsed the sidewalks of New York from pillar to post, and while doing so wore a conveyor belt of designer outfits that prove she has no competition in the style stakes.

Before that happened though, earlier this year we declared that Cyrus was dressing like she wanted to “deregulate the financial markets” when she wore an 80s-inspired Saint Laurent leather set. The look seemed to be more evidence for Sean Monahan’s theory that the era of ‘Boom Boom fashion’ was upon us, which the trend forecaster defined as a return to the codes of 80s excess. This weekend, Cyrus continued on in the same vein, donning a cream couture gown for the Tribeca premiere of her new visual album. Featuring lattice detailing and crystal embellishments, the Schiaparelli couture number also came with an ostentatious, tasselled greatcoat that drove the Boom Boom point home even further.

Cyrus again opted for a Schiaparelli gown later that same evening, this one a structured, golden creation from Daniel Roseberry’s AW25 ready-to-wear collection. Accompanied by drummer boyfriend Maxx Morando, Mr Cyrus wore an inconspicuous navy suit, while both musicians teased their hair into inexplicable, gravity-defying bouffants just like Cyrus’s godmother Dolly Parton

Elsewhere, the singer tapped Haider Ackermann for razor sharp Tom Ford suiting, mined the Margiela archive for a fishnet stocking ensemble, and dipped into her own personal collection for a vintage JPG moment, just in case you needed any further evidence it’s the 1980s she’s taking inspo from. Cyrus even made Chanel – a brand known for its modest tweed suits – look rather edgy, donning an oil-slicked leather vest and skirt set, courtesy of super stylist Kenneth Cole. The 1980s are well and truly back, it seems?
