It’s the time to reset and refresh, which is exactly what photographers Moni Haworth and Petra Collins have done for Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 SS25 campaign. Titled ‘Refresh’, the campaign is photographed by Haworth, with Collins modelling in front of the camera. Celebrating the pair’s long history of working together, the new Y-3 images are based on themes of creativity, duality and togetherness. That said, the campaign retains the nostalgic, gritty, haze typical of Haworth’s work. The UK-born, LA-based photographer first met Collins online in the late 2000s and they’ve been frequent collaborators ever since. In 2021, Haworth published her first book Lunar Library, for which Collins shapeshifted in front of the camera, adopting multiple personas. As well as shooting for both Dazed and AnOther, Haworth has photographed campaigns for the likes of Marni, Miu Miu, Hodakova and Acne Studios to name a few – not to mention the countless magazine covers. Now, as she adds Y-3 to her extensive resumé, we catch up with the photographer. See the full campaign by clicking through the gallery above. Petra Collins in Y-3's SS25 campaign shot by Moni HaworthPhotography Moni Haworth Hi Moni! Can you tell me about the concept of this shoot and how it came about? Moni Haworth: The Y-3 team reached out with the concept: me shooting Petra [Collins] based on our longtime collaboration. A visual representation of our personal connection and the work we’ve made together featuring Petra as different characters over the years. What was on the mood board? Moni Haworth: Ha. Hmmm, we had quantum entanglement, communication via dreams, superposition theorem, nowhere environments and a double-Petra idea. Are you a longtime Yohji Yamamoto/Y-3 fan and do you remember when you first discovered the brand? Moni Haworth: I fully remember Nick Knight’s silhouette image of a long black Yohji coat with emerging red bustle in the late 80s, and also the raggedy holey black dresses around the same time. I was living in London then and to me he was part of the punk fashion revolution. I would wear Y-3 every day of my life, seriously. It’s that chic uniform look that I love, with the secret details that reveal themselves as you wear it. Do you have a favourite look from the shoot? Moni Haworth: The long black trench and the super baggy nylon pants. How did you and Petra Collins first meet? Moni Haworth: We met online. I had a photo blog in London and Petra was shooting all her friends in the snow in Toronto. I wanted to go shoot her and we would talk and swap photos and ideas for years. We both came to the US the same year and finally met IRL. What was the first shoot you worked on together? Moni Haworth: I shot Petra in Los Angeles around 2012. I think we borrowed someone's dilapidated house and their fake fur coat and motorcycle. What was the last text message you sent each other? Moni Haworth: Petra: did you finish Severance Moni: yes and it annoyed Petra: Same wtf Do you have a favourite fashion image of all time? Moni Haworth: Not of all time and not a fashion image, but Baybi Day in The Driller Killer from 1979 by Abel Ferrara was endless fashion and character inspiration back in the day. What advice would you give to an emerging photographer? Moni Haworth: Don’t be distracted by goals and end results. Photograph the places, people, things and ideas that excite you and things will fall into place. Who’s an emerging photographer that you think is doing interesting things? Moni Haworth: I think she’s maybe past emerging but I love the colour and intensity of Jet Swan’s work. What makes an image a Moni Haworth image? Moni Haworth: Missing information.
