In a new film for Dazed, AnOther’s fashion features director-at-large, Alexander Fury, blesses us with an exclusive tour of his 3,000-piece archive. “This is what I spend every waking minute searching for and every penny I’ve got on,” he says, ‘this’ being extremely rare gems of fashion history.
“A lot of people buy vintage because they want to wear it. That’s just not how I think about it. I’m always just looking for things that are amazing.” Among the treasures, Fury has acquired the likes of Kate Moss’ miniskirt from Westwood’s SS94 Cafe Society show; the dress worn by Shalom Harlow during Galliano’s SS95 collection; Prada SS10 chandelier crystal heels; the invite to Galliano’s AW98 cabaret show, including money with the designer’s face printed on it; and the bustles that padded out iconic Westwood silhouettes.
“If you’re gonna have something from 1997, it’s got to be the Gucci thong,” Fury says, explaining that the infamous thong was reportedly sent out to journalists as a gift at the time. “If you’re gonna do something from 2021, it’s gonna be a Schiaparelli haute couture coat dress,” he continues. Though Fury doesn’t yet know the goal or purpose of his archive, he does know which item he’s missing: a crinoline from Galliano’s SS94 show, where models ran chaotically down the catwalk embodying the spirit of Russian Princess Lucretia. “Maybe I can stop after I get that.” Watch the full film above.
