...and more fashion news you missed
Alessandro Michele’s tenure at Gucci will be remembered for a number of things: nightmarish twins, alien prosthetics, and Roblox activations. Of his seven years at the top, Michele severed heads from models, birthed baby dragons, and staged controversial fashion shows in cinematic asylums. But he was also the first Gucci designer to set-up an incubator scheme for young talents. A kind of experimental marketplace for madcap collaborations, Gucci Vault’s latest project is a ski-oriented megamix of heritage and emerging designer capsules. There’s Bleue Burnham’s cloud-inspired jewellery made from atmospheric carbon, Giu Rosa’s funked and fetishised crochet accessories, and Moon Boot’s snow bunny clodhoppers. The Vault Altitude shop will be available exclusively on Gucci Vault’s online shop here.
In other news this week, Miley Cyrus finally started dressing like the rich, bisexual divorcée she is, while PALMWINE IceCREAM’s latest collection scrambled Tamale traditions and Saint Laurent’s SS23 campaign doubled-down on fashion’s daddy issues. SHE’S A LADY
This week, Diorlaunched its seventh Lady Dior art project. Global creatives – among them Ghada Amer, Brian Calvin, Sara Cwynar, Alex Gardner, and Shara Hughes – have all reinvented the iconic bag, which was renamed after Princess Diana after she was spotted carrying the model in September 1995. BIANCA SAUNDERS NEEDS YOU!
Bianca Saunders is holding an open casting ahead of her upcoming show in Paris on January 18th. The brand is looking for women, men, and non-binary models for its AW23 collection. If you fancy yourself as a newgen Naomi, email your measurements and at least 3 images to casting@conanlaurendot.com with the subject “BIANCA SAUNDERS CASTING AW23”. A bit like America’s Next Top Model but less weird.
HOPE, AT LAST?
The rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture so 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope – thank god. As always, the luxury behemoths have been marking the Year of the Rabbit by emblazoning their wares with the appropriate animal illustrations. Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Burberry (amongst many others) are all outfitting the Year of the Rabbit.
DIOR x ERL HEADS ON A ROAD TRIP
In the middle of Dover Street Market in London is a life-size, Barbie-pink convertible, surrounded by glimmering Saddle bags, embroidered board shorts, and fuzzy knitwear. The installation coincides with the launch of Kim Jones and Eli Russell Linnetz’s collaborative capsule for Dior, which debuted during the label’s SS23 show back in May. The DSM pop-up runs until January 19, while other pop-ups are planned for LA, Japan, Korea, Thailan, and China until the end of March.

CARHARTT WIP AND MARNI GET WITH EACH OTHER
For the first time ever, Carhartt WIP and Marni have collaborated on a collection of clothing and accessories, reimagining workwear-inspired archetypes with a kaleidoscope of colours, prints, and unusual shapes. The campaign stars Bootsy Collins – formerly of Parliament-Funkadelic – his wife, grandson and musician Babyxsosa in their Cincinnati home in a series of images shot by Lengua, with styling by Haley Wollens. Click here on January 14 to see more.
JW ANDERSON X VASELINE??
Earlier this week, JW Anderson glutted its Instagram account, save for one post of a buffering wheel. That was, until today, when the designer uploaded a picture of a young man fingering a pot of Vaseline. What does it mean?? Who knows! All will be revealed on January 15 when Anderson lands in Milan for the AW23 edition of men’s fashion week.
