Not necessarily because of what they were wearing, but because of the superficial relationship between clothes and content that the six-day music festival brought into focus. Beyond all the spangled chaps and James Charles’ BBL bodysuits, a slew of fast fashion pop-ups left influencers “stranded in the dirt with no water”, while crowds of creators seemingly turned their cameras away from the stage, somehow making their attention-seeking, disposable fashions the main headliners. Thank god, then, for Julia Fox, who is perhaps this generation’s Lady Gaga – albeit with a greater sense of self-awareness. She’s done the whole gruesome, outrage-fashion thing, she’s donned the vertiginous stripper heels, and nailed the meme-engendering soundbites. And even with her presumably limited access to runway looks, she’s still managing to deliver some of the best examples of fashion on the celebrity circuit. Anyway, all this is to say: we need to see Julia Fox in a DIY vest at this year’s Met Gala. Elsewhere this week, the courtroom sketches from the ongoing Blac Chyna-Kardashians trial proved a treasure trove of inspiration, transforming Chyna into a full-bodied Cruella de Vil.
