And the crowds of people lingering insouciantly on its outskirts, angling themselves towards the lens of a street style photographer? Think of the influencers! Battered by winds! Their content sent up in a blast of street debris and exhaust fumes! It’s not easy to produce a candid shot when a tempest is brewing beneath your Chopova Lowena, lest it give Mary Poppins more than Marilyn Monroe. Luckily, our roving photographer Yu Fujiawara was rooted outside show venues to capture London Fashion Week in all its chaos and magic. Consider it the sartorial equivalent of Big Jet TV. As the city’s landmark brands took (another) break from the schedule, London was transformed into a young designer’s proving ground and, by extension, a playground for their equally eccentric cabal of showgoers. From Mowalola huddled beneath a fur jacket wearing slashed Maximilian jeans, to Marc Goehring in a flounced, camo print skirt, to Kai-Isaiah Jamal in a tangerine, cut-out biker jacket, the definitive look this season was of mayhem. Think skirts bundled over bleached denim, crocheted balaclavas, amorphous shoes, swollen puffer jackets, and layers upon layers of absolutely anything chucked on all at once.
