A single exposed breast? Sure, why not? A belt as a top? Stunning! A slit so high it reveals what you had for breakfast – we live for it! But, somehow, it doesn’t have quite the same impact when you’re in the supermarket jutting your leg out à la Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Oscars. Don’t panic though dear reader, because a new trend is bubbling up that combines the exhilarating thrill of showing off a bit of skin with a more pragmatic, daytime-appropriate approach (sort of). Enter: the pelvic cut-out, which admittedly sounds like a gruelling new exercise, but thankfully requires no effort whatsoever. Cropping up on the runway at Versace, Barragán, and Dion Lee, the upcoming trend does exactly what it says on the tin: sexy cut-outs – usually on trousers, skirts, and dresses – centred around the region of your hip bones. Unsurprisingly, the likes of Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa, and Kim Kardashian are already getting involved. For the more demure among you, there’s no need to panic about flashing innocent bystanders when you go to sit down at the park, try a sexy side slit skirt like Rihanna did, courtesy of Maximilian. If you’re still on the fence, you only need to look at the growing numbers of fans. Fashion site Lyst noted that searches for cutout pieces have increased by 39 per cent in the last month alone, while those ahead of the curve specifically looking for the ‘pelvic’ variation increased it by 23 per cent. Don’t wait for the summer – it may never come – but choose your cut-out and head off into the world to give them just a peek of what you’re packing.
