For its upcoming spring 2020 collection, Supreme will be honouring the late performance artist and club kid, Leigh Bowery.
Bowery, who died from AIDS-related complications in 1994, was an icon in the 80s London club scene, renowned for his subversive, eccentric art performances, as well as his London club night Taboo, which was attended by the likes of Boy George. He also posed for a series of nude portraits by Lucian Freud, which are considered some of Freud’s most important works.
The Supreme collection includes a long sleeved t-shirt, a hooded sweatshirt, and two t-shirts with artwork of Bowery. A portion of the proceeds from this collection will benefit Visual AIDS, a New York-based arts organisation that supports artists living with HIV/AIDS, and engages with contemporary HIV issues through the arts.
Previous Supreme collections have paid homage to the likes of musician Daniel Johnston and My Bloody Valentine.
The Supreme Leigh Bowery collection will be released online on June 25.
