Prada is the latest fashion label to begin making face masks

The Italian house has committed to providing medical personnel with equipment to help battle coronavirus

After urgent requests from the Tuscany region, Prada has committed to making 80,000 medical overalls and 110,000 face masks. As the supply and accessibility of these items continue to dwindle due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the pieces will be allocated to medical institutions hroughout the region.

With the items being produced at Prada’s factory in Montone – which has stayed open for this purpose – they will be distributed daily, with the entire set of medical equipment due to be delivered by April 6.

Giving thanks to a network of external Italian suppliers, this isn’t the first time the luxury house has made efforts to help combat coronavirus. With Italy finding itself the country most affected by the disease in Europe, with Milan and the Lombardy region at the very heart of the outbreak, Prada has already donated medical equipment to a number of Milan’s biggest hospitals.

With LVMH and Kering Group announcing their intentions to produce face masks for France a few days ago, Pyer Moss has also converted its NYC office into a coronavirus donation centre, while the British Fashion Council has urged designers, with the means, to help with the production of face masks.
