Diesel celebrates family ties in the Italian countryside

For our winter 2019 issue, Pascal Gambarte photographs IRL families in two decades of the brand’s iconic archive

For the winter 2019 issue of Dazed, we looked to explore different notions of family ties. With Saoirse Ronan in conversation with her Little Women-mother, Laura Dern, Special Olympian Chelsea Werner shot alongside her mum Lisa, and Nathan Westling reflecting on finding support in his fashion family, the theme also spills over into a number of editorials, including one which delved into Diesel’s archive in its home in Breganze in the Italian countryside.

Founded by Renzo Rosso in 1978, Diesel has created a legacy of innovation and community: from its iconic campaign imagery, to initiatives such as the Red Tag Project that has seen the brand collaborate on Diesel capsule collections with designers from Y/Project’s Glenn Martens to A–COLD–WALL*’s Samuel Ross.

Earlier this month the brand released a new retrospective book entitled DIESEL, DREAM, DISRUPTION, DEVIATION, DENIM. The book is filled with key moments from the Diesel family’s history – from Rosso using his mother’s sewing machine aged 15, to some of the label’s most iconic photographs captured over the years.

Styled by Ai Kamoshita and photographed by Dazed 100-er Pascal Gambarte, discover Dazed’s special Diesel story, as shot on a cast of IRL families – including parents, children and siblings – dressed in pieces from the label’s extensive archive.
