Juergen Teller shoots and stars in Kiko Kostadinov’s ASICS collaboration

The trainer is an expansion of the London-based designer's AW19 collection

Continuing his on-going collaborative relationship with Japenese footwear brand ASICS, London-based fashion designer Kiko Kostadinov has released a new trainer, the GEL-KORIKA.

With the campaign shot by German fine arts photographer Juergen Teller, and art direction by Dazed’s own Jamie Reid, the shoe is modelled by Teller himself in what appears to be a variety of holiday snaps: in a field of wheat, a hotel room, and in front of a fountain.

An expansion of the Bulgarian designer’s AW19 show, which was inspired by the films Midnight Lace and The Ring, the show saw models walk the runway with wigs covering their faces along with pseudo-blindfolds rendered in rhinestones. Now, embracing ASICS distinctively functional style, the pair have produced a new silhouette, with the menswear trainer sitting comfortably within the haunting atmosphere of the CSM graduates show earlier this year.

Available in both womenswear and menswear collections, the menswear model is dark and sleek coming in all black or grey, while the womenswear shoe comes in vibrant pinks, blues, purples, and greens. The difference is set to highlight the contrast between both worlds.

Working with ASICS last year, the pair produced the Sokat trainer, which toed the line between dad style and the ugly sneaker trend. The current shoe continues the use of the full gel technology midsole, now using a FlyteFoam sole, merging the base of ASICS’ running shoe, the GEL-NIMBUS 21™, with the brand’s basketball shoe, the GELBURST RS™.

The Store in Berlin will host an early launch on November 8 2019 with the global launch on November 16 2019. Look back at Kiko Kostadinov’s AW19 collection below.
