A Karl Lagerfeld memorial will be held in Paris next month

Karl For Ever will take over the Grand Palais during the menswear shows

It’s been just over three months since designer Karl Lagerfeld passed away. Since then, his final collection for Chanel dropped at PFW – featuring an appearance from Penélope Cruz – and his successor Virginie Viard presented her debut collection for the Parisian house.

For those of you still mourning the German designer, there’s a memorial coming to Paris next month that will celebrate both his life and legacy. Entitled ‘Karl For Ever’ it will take place at the Grand Palais, longtime venue for some of his most #extra Chanel shows, on June 20 during the Paris SS20 menswear shows.

By invitation-only, the 2500 guests will witness a commemorative event featuring video footage of Lagerfeld as well as interpretative dance, music, and theatre performances – led by theatre and opera director Robert Carsen. “I wanted something full of life and unexpected,” he told WWD“(Karl) once famously said, ‘A funeral? I’d rather die.’”

As per the designer’s request, there was no public funeral after his death, so the memorial will be the only event of its kind.
