Virginie Viard presents her first solo collection for Chanel

The Parisian house’s new creative director staged the Cruise 2020 show in Paris today

Back in March, Chanel presented its AW19 collection, the last for the late Karl Lagerfeld who passed away a few weeks prior. Taking over the Grand Palais, the winter wonderland-set spectacle featured an unexpected runway appearance from Penélope Cruz

Today, the label has returned to the Grand Palais once again, this time for the Cruise 2020 collection – the first designed by new creative director Virginie Viard. Transforming the space into a train station – complete with train tracks, but, sadly no train – according to the brand’s Instagram account the set represented the promise of adventure; the path its currently on.

Presented to the likes of Naomi Campbell, Lily-Rose Depp, and Claudia Schiffer, models included Adesuwa, Giselle Norman, and Dazed100er Ugbad who stomped out to a remix of Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know” for the finale. The collection itself featured bright Chanel jackets and had a soft, feminine 70s feel with wax jackets worn over crisp white shirts. Elsewhere, oversized floral appliqués adored the dresses in the final section.

With Viard’s first collection now under her belt, stay tuned for what comes next before the brand’s SS20 show in October.
