Meet four Hong Kong designers showing at London Fashion Week

A presentation at CSM today will spotlight Hong Kong fashion’s creative diversity

As part of London Fashion Week AW19, Fashion Hong Kong will spotlight four of the region’s leading designers at a presentation today at Central Saint Martins. Labels Doriskath, House of V, Loom Loop, and Yeung Chin all explore different parts of international and local culture and history in their work, each driving modern fashion in Hong Kong.

Yeung Chin’s eponymously titled label will show his AW19 collection, Utopia, which urges audiences to think about control. It’s also inspired by controversial movies like the 1974 Italian drama, The Night Porter

HOUSE OF V, currently lead by CSM graduate Cynthia Mak – who has also worked at Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, takes its references from architecture to create minimalistic designs. Mak’s presentation The New Winter is set to draw on Damien Hirst’s spot paintings.

Designer Polly Ho founded Loom Loop in 2014. Through sustainability and traditional craftsmanship, Loom Loop recontextualises the past for the future. Its AW19 Concrete Jungle collection will pay homage to the fusion of traditional and contemporary Hong Kong.

Lastly, Doriskath is led by CSM graduate Doris Kath Chan, whose tailor-made collection M.E. takes inspiration from French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. Drawing on his theories on the formation of the ego and self-consciousness, Chan translates the space between imaginary projection and the real self into her designs.

The presentation is aimed at celebrating the diverse creativity of Hong Kong fashion and will allow audiences to meet the designers while also observing their work in person.
