The legendary tennis player was at Stella McCartney’s Bond Street store to celebrate the launch of their collaborative sneakers, which are completely vegan and feature Smith on one tongue and McCartney on the other. Queues of fans (presumably vegan ones) including Riz Ahmed and Madonna lined the stairs to have the icon sign their kicks. Already wearing her pair, Madonna kicked her leg up onto the table Smith was sitting at and had him get to work with his Sharpie, in what was an unmistakably Madonna move. It’s not only sneakers Smith will be signing this week, though. In celebration of the release of new book Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe, which features images of the tennis player’s personal collection, archive photographs of him and others wearing the style (including David Bowie, John Lennon, and Raf Simons), and a new portrait series by Juergen Teller, he’ll also be making an appearance at Dover Street Market and the Victoria & Albert Museum with his pen in hand. Stan Smith will be signing copies of Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe at 18 Hanbury Street on September 18, and the Victoria & Albert Museum on September 19.
